OVERVIEW

BIOETHICS POSITION PAPER ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

The focus of this paper is the use of ethical reasoning skills to develop a biblically integrated position on a current bioethical issue of your choice. The issue must be related to your present or future chaplaincy ministry context such as those found on the Bioethics.com web portal. The goal is to enable you to develop the thought processes and research skills required to identify and analyze common bioethical issues you may potentially face in your personal life and ministry.

INSTRUCTIONS

You must produce a 1,800-word research-based paper. A fully developed paper must:

• Clearly state the ethical issue and your position.
• Examine opposing viewpoints in relation to your position.
• Concisely integrate Scripture and ethical reasoning in a logical, coherent manner to convince others of your position.
• Demonstrate interaction with the resources available on the Bioethics.com web portal and assigned textbooks.
• Include at least 5 references from books and/or scholarly journal articles in addition to the Bible. Do not use Wikipedia or non-scholarly Internet articles except as an illustration of an ethical issue.
• Clearly state your conclusions and their implications.

This position paper must be treated as a short research paper. It will be primarily judged on the coherence of the arguments/conclusions presented. It will also be evaluated on other objective criteria. The essay must demonstrate a master’s-level use of the English language. This assignment requires critical thinking, logical progression of thought, and appropriate organization. In addition, you must meet the following standards of style and form:

• Adhere to current Turabian format.
• Use 1″ margins on all 4 sides.
• Double-space your text.
• Use 12-point Times New Roman font.
• Indent paragraphs at 5 spaces (0.6″).
• Do not include extra blank lines between paragraphs.
• Use appropriate section headings.
• Include page numbers.
• Include a title page with your name, student ID number, course number/section, instructor’s name, and date. The title page does not count toward the required word count.
• Include a Contents page and Bibliography.
