I.   Proposal Letter or email

Assignment:  You are an employee who has been asked to write a proposal to solve a problem at work.

  • You will use the same topic as you used for your presentation and compose a letter that highlights the most important information you discovered in your presentation.
  • The letter should use an interdisciplinary approach (at least 3 different disciplines) to prove there is a problem and find solutions to the issue you have identified. Keep in mind the following as your write:

Voice

The letter should rely on logos and ethos but may appeal to emotions as well (pathos) and should have a professional and respectful tone.

Logos

The letter should rely on credible academic sources from at least 3 different disciplines and use attributive tags to prove you are trustworthy, reliable and that your topic is solvable and important to the business

  • Describe and evaluate the problems you discover through your research.  Use research to support your assertions.
  • Identify and. explain which solution works best or is supported the most with hard facts, according to your research.

Propose a solution

  • Propose a course of action that the employer or governing body could follow

Show how the solution will benefit the employer or governing body (this may involve some research on your part to discover what the specific needs of the government body or corporation are

II.   Opinion Editorial (Op-Ed)

Assignment:  You are a writer for a company’s newsletter who has been asked to report on a problem at work.

  • The op-ed should use an interdisciplinary approach (at least 3 different disciplines) to prove there is a problem and find solutions to the issue you have identified. Keep in mind the following as your write:
  • You will use the same topic as you used for your presentation and compose an Op Ed that highlights the most important information you discovered in your presentation.

III.   Primary Research–interview

Assignment:  You are a researcher for a company’s department that investigates how to improve the company. You will write a report on an interview you conduct with an expert or academic. 

  • The interview should be with a resource who could answer well-researched questions about the policy or problem (an academic or an expert in the field). You should use an interdisciplinary approach (at least 3 different disciplines) to find answers that shed light on the problem and the solution of your problem.
  • You will use the same topic as you used for your presentation and compose an interview that highlights the most important information you discovered in your presentation.
