Sex Education in Church

Introduction:
The phrase “faith-learning integration” has become something of a cliché at Christian colleges. In the psychology department this University, we work hard to realize the reality that lies behind it. Faith and learning are not two separate domains or activities that have to be artificially twisted into some compromise arrangement that is true neither to faith nor to learning.
Rather, faith and learning are naturally integrated: faith requires learning, and learning requires faith. Our job is to discover the nature of that integration. Integration in this sense derives from the same root idea as integer and integrity. An integer is a whole number, and faith-learning integration is about understanding the wholeness—the unity in diversity—of creation and our place and task in it. Learning about that unity and diversity requires integrity—strength of character; serious, sustained truth seeking; and honest, straightforward living and scholarship.
This University is a community committed to developing students and faculty who are marked by that integrity, who want to live and learn the truth. If we are faithful in our calling to learn together, then we have good reason to hope that we can help repair the broken places in the world.
This faith-learning integration is critical to our understanding of sexuality and God’s purpose for it in our lives. Although sex and spirituality are often treated as very separate issues, and even understood to be in conflict in many societies, including U.S. society, sexuality and spirituality are natural and intersecting parts of human being’s lives.
You will have the opportunity in this unit to actively participate in faith-learning integration by writing a paper that will illustrate the intersection of psychology with your Christian worldview.

Instructions:
Begin preparation on a paper that formally reflects the integration of faith with discipline.
You will critically assess a specific sexual issue in our culture today (in this case Sex Education in Church) using academic research and theory, scriptural references, and possible implications of this sexual issue for persons in relationships across the life cycle.
This paper should be 6 pages, double-spaced, and should include a reference page. Six sources are required:
• Two peer-reviewed academic journal articles
• The Holy Bible (https://www.biblegateway.com/ NIV)
• Three high-quality Internet sources
Times New Roman 12pt Font must be used for all written work. Cite within the text per APA 7th edition and add a reference page. Do not include footnotes, but include in-text citations.
The paper should be divided into three major sections:
• Status of specific issue in our culture today (i.e., demographics, term definitions, current statistics, research, treatment, etc.).
• Scriptural and/or theological interpretations that can be used to guide our thinking or behavior as Christians.
• Your own personal response to both the psychological and theological information you have gathered. (The tone needs to be of a 40-year-old male person who will become a Hospital Chaplain)
