From Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders to Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders
Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders are among the most common mental disorders in the world. Substance Use Disorder combines the old categories of “substance abuse” and “substance dependence” into a single disorder. The Substance-Related and Addictive Disorders are measured on a diagnostic continuum from mild to severe. The use of and dependence on licit and illicit drugs are both approached in this chapter. Alcohol Use Disorder, Caffeine, Nicotine, Marijuana, Cocaine and the disorders that their use or abuse convey are studied. Other Withdrawal-Related disorders are also presented in Chapter 10 of your textbook.
The second part of this week is dedicated to the study of Schizophrenia Spectrum and Other Psychotic Disorders. Schizophrenia, Postpartum Mood Disorder, Brief Psychotic Disorder and Delusional are described from etiological and symptomatologic perspectives.
