Personal Code of Ethics

OVERVIEW

The focus of this paper is the creation of a personal code of ethics similar to those found in Trull and Carter’s Ministerial Ethics: Moral Formation for Church Leaders. The code of ethics must reflect issues and standards from your chaplaincy ministry context. The end product should be a practical and usable ethical code that you can use as a touchstone for personal accountability or share with those in your ministry setting for professional accountability.

INSTRUCTIONS

You must produce a 600-word personal code of ethics. A fully developed paper must:

• Clearly identify the ministry context.
• Identify private or personal obligations or standards that are critical to your ministry context.
• Identify responsibilities to clients, colleagues, denomination, community, and the profession.
• Demonstrate how you will approach professional and personal accountability.

This assignment will be primarily judged on the coherence of the arguments/conclusions presented. It will also be evaluated on other objective criteria. The essay must demonstrate a master’s-level use of the English language. This assignment requires critical thinking, logical progression of thought, and appropriate organization. In addition, you must meet the following standards of style and form:

• Adhere to current Turabian format.
• Use 1″ margins on all 4 sides.
• Double-space your text.
• Use 12-point Times New Roman font.
• Indent paragraphs at 5 spaces (0.6″).
• Do not include extra blank lines between paragraphs.
• Use appropriately formatted section headings.
• Include page numbers.
• Include a title page with your name, student ID number, course number/section, instructor’s name, and date. The title page does not count toward the required word count.
• Include a Contents page and Bibliography.
