This assignment will allow you to assess, evaluate and make recommendations on social,
economic, and environmental justice issues that are affecting an American Indian tribe. You will
answer the following questions:
- What is the Tribes (name, location, current population, etc..)?
- What is the Tribes history, relationship with US government, social practices, cultural
beliefs, poverty rate, and environmental issues? - How has the government (State or Federal) treated the tribe (what state/federal laws,
policies, or treaties reflect this? - What Social problems has the tribe faced due to state/federal laws, policies, or treaties?
- Discuss the contrast between indigenous the Indigenous circular views and the colonizers
western linear views - Using the NASW values and ethics what theoretical perspective and Interventions would be
appropriate when working with a tribal member. - What Spiritual aspects of the tribe would be important to incorporate in practice with a
tribal member. - What recommendations for state/federal laws and/or policies would you make to address
the issues facing this tribe? - Application: Using section 1-8 write an advocacy letter to the State and federal
Representatives and Senators representing the tribe - 10 minute presentation

- References lists a minimum of eight (8) required scholarly works in correct APA format

You must demonstrate that you have a clear understanding of how some social policies can have
negative impacts on vulnerable Indigenous communities.
Application
Each student will also write and email/mail an advocacy letter to the tribes State Representatives
and Senators to advocate about the social, economic, and environmental justice issues affecting
the tribe. Each letter will contain students’ background along with the research collected.
