Purpose:
The purpose of this assignment is to review the Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPEC) and to apply a selected sub-competency to the student’s clinical area of nursing practice.
Course objective:
Assimilate concepts of inter-professional collaboration, communication, relationship and team building necessary in transforming health systems and outcomes. Apply values and principles of the science of teamwork to adapt one’s own role in a variety of team settings
Module objective(s):
- Evaluate advanced communication and collaboration essential for the translation of best evidence, promotion of health policy and practice of the standards of care.
- Appraise theories focused on interpersonal relationships, team building, and interprofessional collaboration promoting quality and safety and leading change in complex practice and systems.
Tasks: - Step one: Examine the IPEC document in the required readings for this module
- Step two: Identify a sub-competency from the IPEC document that you need to develop further to prepare you to be an effective member of an IPC team.
- Step three: Using ChatGPT or a similar AI resource, formulate a minimum of three (3) behaviors to apply the sub-competency in your clinical area of expertise.
- Step four: Validate the three behaviors identified with a minimum of one peer reviewed source for each behavior. Discuss how the literature supports the behavior.
- Step five: As you continue to prepare for your role on the IPC team, consider how you respond when you are feeling defensive (based on the presentation from Jim Tamm)? If you are responding in a defensive manner, what action might be helpful in redirecting your communication?
- Step Six: As you consider the six key points from the video by Joy Doll, Cultivating Collaboration in Health Care: The Journey of an Accidental Expert, which of the six key points do you believe is the most important? Why?
Criteria for Success
For this 10-point assignment, the student will post a discussion item not to exceed a
maximum of 550 words excluding references, correctly APA formatted. First person may be
used in the discussion. The discussion item will identify and cite the sub-competency selected
by the student from the IPEC competencies. The discussion will further identify a minimum of
three behaviors the student can prioritize to achieve the sub-competency. Peer reviewed
sources will be cited and referenced to support the identified behaviors. Peer reviewed sources are from respected journals and can be found by using the university library. Please do not use internet resources such as newsletters, blogs, etc. as they are rarely peer reviewed.
The student will also review the videos posted from Jim Tamm and Joy Doll and provide self-reflection for how the content of the videos might be considered as they assume their future role on the IPC team.
Cross post: Students will post a response (“cross post”) in the discussion area to a minimum
of two peers for different sub-competencies than the student selected for the initial post. The cross posts
will be a maximum of 300 words excluding the reference list and will be correctly APA formatted.
Each cross post will include a peer reviewed source to support the cross post discussion. The peer reviewed source used to support the cross post will be an original source for the individual student that was not used for the initial post or another cross post.
The scoring rubric will be used for grading and should be used as a check list to assure all required content has been addressed.
Please see the scoring rubric located at the three dots at the top of this discussion for additional scoring information.
The due date for the initial post and the cross post will be located on the course schedule found in the Start Here module.
Discussions: Discussions will not be edited or deleted after submission. If revisions are needed, the revised submission may be submitted as a reply to the original submission with a heading noting the resubmission of the content. If significant time has elapsed from the original submission, greater than five minutes, the original submission will be the work graded and the resubmission will not be evaluated for grading.
