According to pages 100-102, eye behavior is influenced by a variety of differences among people.
For 10-15 minutes, place yourself in a spot where people will need to pass by you (lobby of a building, student center, library, coffee shop, store, etc.). Make direct eye contact with as many people as you can, whether you know them or not. See how many acknowledge you in some way – by a “hello”, a head nod, a small wave, a dirty look. Make notes of each person’s reaction to you. What do you believe causes this to occur? Do you think we have a tendency in our society to make more eye contact with people or less than in the past? What role do you believe culture plays in our use of eye behavior?
