Cultures in Workplaces

Workplace violence is inevitable in our culture. However, it should never be considered just part of the job.

With that in mind, for this week,

1. Have you ever seen workplace violence where you currently work or have worked in the past? If not, imagine a situation in healthcare where a distraught family member becomes violent because of long waiting time.
   o Were you the recipient, perpetrator, or observer?
   o Describe how each player in this situation might feel.
   o Identify and explain the ethical principles that were violated.
2. Under what circumstances could you become a whistleblower?
   o Provide an example from your own experience or create a hypothetical situation.
   o What are some of the possible ramifications of whistleblowing?
   o Use a moral theory from chapter 9 as a framework for your answer.

Respond to three or more postings of your colleagues, addressing such things as:

1. Do you agree with the concepts expressed?
2. Is there something that needs clarification?
3. Can you support what your colleague posted?
   o Challenge your colleague to a different view or deeper insight.

Remember the basic rules of posting:
Emotion and intent clearly come through in this medium.
Be courteous, non-judgmental, and supportive, even when you disagree.
Postings must have substance: “I agree” or “Good posting” are examples of postings that do not meet this criteria and will not count as a required posting.
Always check the grading rubric as you reply to ensure you meet all criterion and earn all the points possible.

Note: As always, all discussion postings must be in APA format, as much as possible, and use proper citations. The initial reply to the DQ must contain a minimum of two citations, one from the assigned weekly readings, and one from an additional scholarly source.
