Overview
Public Health Nutritionists are often assigned the task of interpreting nutrition information. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and ability to convey and interpret dietary information. You will interview 1 person and write a report based on your interview experience. Data may be collected through informal interviews or questionnaires.
Instructions
- The first part of the assignment is to identify a person with NO health problems (diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, cancer etc.) who is willing to be interviewed. It is important the person you choose has no current health issues.
- The second part of the assignment is to carefully review the Creating A Healthy, Balanced Diet Template document. Be sure to look it over to prepare for the interview. Because you may be educating the person you interview, you may want to have handouts, guidelines or examples and definitions for “variety,” “simple sugar” and “complex carbohyrates.”
- The third part part of this assignment involves interviewing the chosen person, helping them understand what a healthy diet looks like and completing the Creating A Healthy, Balanced Diet Template document. Use the Creating A Healthy, Balanced Diet Template to help guide your interactions.
- The fourth and last part of this assignment is the written analysis/discussion. This analysis/discussion should be submitted below/after the completed Creating A Healthy, Balanced Diet Template document. The discussion must use the following headings (shown in bold below) to guide talking points:
- Based on their responses, how knowledgeable do you think your subject is about nutrition? Explain
- How well was the information you shared (variety, complex carbohydrates, supplements -vs- whole food) received by the person? Explain your answer.
- Based on your answers to Step 1, 2 and 3, how well do you feel this person is fueling their body? Explain and be specific.
Be sure to cite at least 2 credible resources in current AMA format (Course textbooks can be used). Be specific. This is your opportunity to demonstrate that you know the material. Specific examples earn points. General, sweeping comments do not demonstrate that you understand the material.
