Bioethics Research Summative Assessment

Overview: Your group has conducted research on a bioethical question that has relevant implications in modern society.
As you complete your groups round robin look for information from your articles.  Take notes on the articles presented for each side and work to get a full view of the issues and appreciate the complexity.
After your round robin, each person will write a persuasive “open letter” sharing your viewpoint. DO NOTE, YOU MAY HAVE A DIFFERENT VIEWPOINT FROM YOUR GROUP MEMBERS. EACH PERSON WILL WRITE THEIR OWN LETTER, WITH THEIR OWN VIEWPOINT.

Open letters are written to the group of people who oppose your viewpoint, so you should take this perspective when you write. You must include evidence from research to support your claims, and you must include citations at the end of your letter.

Part A: Research Evidence

Go to your note catcher and add notes from the papers read by others in your group, using  your own words. Be certain you have citation information from each article your group explored. . You can use a website like EasyBib.com to help you with your citation. Make all citations using MLA format.
Here are the rules for MLA Format:
Use white 8 ½  x 11” paper.

  • Make 1 inch margins on the top, bottom, and sides.
  • The first word in every paragraph should be indented one half inch.
  • Indent set-off or block quotations one half inch from the left margin.
  • Use any type of font that is easy to read, such as Times New Roman. Make sure that italics look different from the regular typeface.
  • Use 12-point size.
  • Double space the entire research paper, even the Works Cited page.
  • Leave one space after periods and other punctuation marks, unless your instructor tells you to leave two spaces.

Part C: Analyze Research and Write Letter

Read through your notes and decide, based on your research, what side of the issue you land on. Create an open letter you will write to the public in space below. As this is a letter, you need some sort of introduction and conclusion, with the meat of your points in the middle. Open letters are meant to be critical of the opposing side, so you need to write with conviction and persuasion.
Be sure to put material from the paper into YOUR OWN WORDS, and to CITE YOUR SOURCES.
