The American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards of Practice describe a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. Standard 8 of the ANA, Culturally Congruent Practice, states that “The registered nurse practices in a manner that is congruent with cultural diversity and inclusion principles.” (Marion et al., 2016). Healthcare is a universal need and it transcends differences with respect to culture. In response to the need to address cultural competence, the ANA’s Process for Competency Enhancement/Development lists competencies for the registered nurse as well as competencies for the graduate-level registered nurse.

Section Three: From the Processes for Competency Enhancement and Development, (Marion et al., 2016), detail how two of the steps below apply to and can be integrated into your EBP project to establish goals. Create a plan to achieve these goals.

a. “Establish competency goal or goals, e.g., a timeframe within which competency will be more fully enhanced or developed”
b. “Create plan to achieve competency goal”

Your plan should be designed in a way and with enough detail that the goals are realistic, quantifiable and achievable.

Your writing Assignment should:

  • follow the conventions of Standard English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.);
  • be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful;
  • be 5–7 pages in length, not including cover or reference page;
  • display superior content, organization, style, and mechanics; and;
  • use APA formatting and citation style.
