Overview

This week Neurodevelopmental, Disruptive, Conduct and Elimination disorders are described  from an etiological and symptomatologic perspective.  Your textbook’s  presentation of mental conditions such as Intellectual Disability, Specific Learning Disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Conduct Disorder and oppositional Defiant Disorder, Enuresis and Encopresis is followed by real-world examples that help you understand the specificity of every one of these mental disorders.   

Goals for this week and their relationship to our course objectives

This week our learning materials, activities and assignments will help you achieve these goals:

• acquire a working knowledge of psychopathology, its assessment and proposed treatments.Understand the various DSM-V categories of behavior including, but not limited to: anxiety disorders, mood disorders, eating and sleeping disorders, personality disorders,sexual disorders, psychotic disorders, substance-related disorders, etc.;
• identify and differentiate between the major symptoms of various psychological disorders; and
• examine and understand the legal and ethical issues related to mental health care.

which will assist you in achieving these course objectives

• display your own perspectives screening them through the recently learned concepts;
• apply concepts that belong to the field of psychopathology to hands-on video assignments;
• communicate effectively in written form using references from the textbook and the weekly reading and using an APA format; and
• organize facts, information, and ideas during the weekly assignments, article analyses and discussions and show an increasing mastery of the learned concepts.
