Strategic Leadership of an Organisation

Assessment Part One:  Case Study (30%).

Students will be asked to prepare a 1000-word essay detailing the strategic leadership of an organisation (private, public or third sector) in its response to Covid-19.

Introduction (10% – 100 words).  This is what I am going to tell you…

• The Organisation.
• Strategic Leadership.

Body of Work (80% – 800 words).  This is what I am telling you…

• Organisation (descriptive, sector etc) (100 words).
• What is Strategic Leadership or leadership at strategic level of analysis? (300 words).
• The organisation’s response (400 words).

Conclusion (10% – 100 words).  This is what I have told you….

In summary… (nothing new).

Acid test:  Should be able to understand fully from Introduction and Conclusion.

Assessment Part Two:  Reflective Essay (60%)

Question

What is leadership?  In this 1500-word essay (and considering the module material to date), you are asked to explore such areas as: what does it mean to you; it is important; why and for what reason; and what is its purpose?   

Advice on how to answer this question:

• From the material presented in the module, please chose two leadership concepts (i.e. theories e.g. leadership traits; distributed leadership; servant leadership; leadership styles etc).
• Critically assess the two concepts you have chosen using academic and practitioner literature and writing in the 3^rd person. (e.g. Define, explain and draw out the merits, strengths, weaknesses, advantages and disadvantages)
• Drawing on your work experience to date, please give example of how these two concepts relate to the world of practice/work.  
• Note:  In your answer, it is essential that you draw on the relevant literature – both academic and practitioner – to support your work.
• An excellent submission will show how the ‘theory explains practice’ and/or how ‘the practice of leadership compliments or supports the stated theory’.
