Sociological Imagination

General Instructions:

• Submission: submit via the Assignments link attaching it as a pdf file or a word docx that opens directly (without the need for passwords)
• Format: Use Times font, size 11 or 12, double-spacing, one-inch margins on all sides. One full page is ~20 lines. On the top line of the first page, type your name, Sociol 101 and Essay title. Do NOT repeat the essay prompt/question and instructions; just indicate the essay by its title.
• Length: 6-7 pages. Length may vary a bit depending on how concisely you write.
• Write in full sentences and use paragraphs. No bulleting.
• NO OUTSIDE COURSE SOURCES CAN BE USED
• Use and organization of textual requirements:

• Think about how you can package together some of the different textual requirements with some of the concepts.
  • The order in which the concepts and textual requirements below are listed is NOT the order in which you are to engage with them. They are listed arbitrarily.  A big part of this assignment is to give thought to organization how you develop the essay (both within paragraphs and between paragraphs).  Having good organization between paragraphs and good flow of ideas within paragraphs requires writing the essay via several drafts.  

·       Edit your essays for spelling, grammar, sentence coherency and organization of ideas.

·       Citation: Cite all borrowed ideas within essay, be they quoted or paraphrased using parenthetical citation (for example, (Newman 200) or (Kimmel 102). This also goes for any YouTube videos and documentaries. No works cited page is required.

Essay Question: Using your sociological imagination, write an essay exploring your gender socialization using the below concepts and engaging with the below texts.

Sociological Imagination Narrative (grade reflects use of your sociological imagination, quality of writing (coherent sentences, good organization and proper citation within the essay using parenthetical citation (Newman 300). 43%

+++If you do not engage with at least ½ of below listed concepts and at least one of the texts below (documentary and/or article), then this portion of the essay gets graded at: 23 % with the remaining 20% at 59.

Concepts (40%) you will be incorporating the below concepts into your exploration.

1. You are not required to define any of the below concepts; however, you must make sure their meanings are conveyed via the narrative (the experiences you are exploring/describing). If you decide to explicitly define any concepts, you may need to think about extending the length of the essay a bit.
2. Bold only the concepts to make it easier for the instructor to identify them. Points deducted if you don’t bold the concepts.
3. Grade for each concept varies based on how well-fully you show me you understand and apply the concept.
