Assessment Method Assessment title and outline | LEVEL 6: In-person presentation assessment. All presentations will be recorded. Leadership and Decision Making in Adult Nursing Presentation Assessment Outline: For this assessment you will present a proposal for an intervention, which will be a change in nursing practice that aims to improve practice. As a leader, you will identify how you will lead the implementation of this proposed practice change and critically reflect on your own personal and professional skills and knowledge. This module assessment is aligned to the Level 6 Marking Criteria. The presentation: You will present individually on your chosen proposed practice change. You are asked to consider this as a proposed practice change that you will implement within the role of a newly qualified registered nurse, NOT as a student nurse. You will present your assessment presentation, which is to be between 13 – 15 minutes long, with 15 minutes being the maximum time allowed. *Students with a Disability Support Summary will have an additional 25%, which equates to a 19 minute maximum presentation You will be asked two questions following your presentation by the assessor. These questions will reflect the assessment criteria and require you to demonstrate further depth of knowledge and understanding. You will begin your presentation by stating; “In my role as a newly qualified nurse and emergent leader, I will foster a culture of excellence by addressing the need for *chosen outcome from NMC Platform Point* by implementing *(chosen proposed practice change)*”. The proposed practice change: The assessment requires you to critically examine a proposed practice change to improve an element of nursing practice, and the proposed practice change will support your professional development in leadership and sustaining a positive culture of care. This proposed practice change should be considered alongside your module research and taught content, as well as experience from clinical nursing practice. Throughout the module, you will have been taught content that aligns with the NMC Platform points. Your proposed practice change will align to one of the specific outcomes detailed in the NMC Platform points (NMC, 2018). Remember: You are aiming to propose a change that ultimately improves clinical practice and demonstrates your leadership ability. Structure of your presentation: The structure of this presentation meets Learning Outcomes 1 – 4 Clearly state your proposed practice change, which must be a service development directed towards improved outcomes for service users or colleagues Analyse the reasons behind your choice of proposed practice change. Your rationale should demonstrate that you are engaged with evidence, policy and values. Justify the leadership style that you would use to facilitate your proposed practice change. Critically reflect on your areas of strength and weaknesses as an emergent leader in implementing the proposed practice change and identify a personal development need. Evaluate your interpersonal skills in relation to how you would supervise others and contribute to their learning and assessment within the area of the proposed practice change. Discuss your personal and professional accountability in relation to implementing the proposed practice change. Respond to questions about your proposed practice change and implementation strategy. Confidentiality, Anonymity and Escalation of Concerns Please be aware of the need for confidentiality, you will need to anonymise any practice related discussion throughout your presentation. You must not identify any practice areas, staff, patients, Trusts or identifiable information at any point. Presentations must not be developed on Trust hardware. If any element you discuss in your presentation describes unsafe practice, has safeguarding implications or raises concerns about professional practice please ensure you include details of how you escalated your concerns at the time and the actions taken in response. Referencing and Evidence Base: You are required to use a relevant and up to date evidence base for your presentation. You must ensure that you address all elements of the presentation criteria. Full reference list: You are required to submit a full and complete reference list in Harvard style. Harvard referencing This list can be submitted on the same document as your transcript. Presentation skills: You will have an opportunity to practice presentation skills throughout the module and receive feedback. Remember! You must ensure that you complete your presentation in the allocated timeframe. Content included in your submission but not presented will not be considered for marking. You are responsible for your presentation on the day of your assessment and must be able to upload and present your slides independently. If a virtual face to face environment is used, you must be able to upload and share your presentation slides and ensure that your camera and microphone are both on for the duration of the presentation. The assessor of your presentation will ask you two questions following your presentation. Presentation format: You must submit your presentation in a suitable presentation document format. i.e., PowerPoint. Presentation transcript: You must write a complete transcript of your presentation and submit this at the submission point. You must adhere to your transcript in your presentation. Deviation from your transcript will be highlighted in feedback and may impact upon grade given.
