Course Level Outcome (CLO): Students will be able to identify health, safety, and nutritional risks for children.
Purpose: This assignment is to help students identify safety risks and to evaluate an early childhood facility for quality and safety issues.
Tasks:
- Read Chapter 7: “Creating High-Quality Environments” in your textbook.
- Look at your home environment for safety hazards outdoors and indoors.
- Use the safety checklist provided from the Department of Social Services Website found at the end of this page as a guide. (No need to submit this.)

- How to conduct a home safety inspection.
- You will learn how to evaluate your home environment as a possible in-home child care facility implementing the Health and Safety Facility checklist from the Department of Social Services.

1. TITLE PAGE:
- Must include your name, date, school, and title of paper.
2. ABSTRACT (Introduction):
- Purpose: The purpose, objective, or question to be considered is stated clearly.
- Interest: You as the author convinces the reader that the paper is worth reading in an interesting fashion.
- Preview: You the author presents a preview of how the topic will be discussed and how your objective will be met.
3. BODY
- Give a brief overview of your home. Describe each room.
- Overview of home: For example: “In my home I have a living room, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, Kitchen and includes dining room in it. There is no hallway or stairs. I have backyard and front yard with secure gate all around.”
- Inspect your home environment, room by room, describe and discuss the risks found in each room/category that should be removed or if your home were being set up for children. Discuss the findings in your own home: List each of the 8 categories found below.
- Identify the Risks/solutions for each area of your home. Do not omit anything.
- Discuss your findings. State each issue/risk; room by room and then state the solutions.

IN-TEXT CITATIONS:
