Contributions of Social Media to Cyber Bulling in Children

In the contemporary world, many children, especially during adolescence, are increasingly exposed to social media and the internet. Social media and the internet significantly influence youth and adolescents’ behavior; this is evidenced by how they replicate social media trends. Also, a substantial percentage of social media content that goes viral on social media has some violent aspects. This research topic will help understand the adverse effects of children, particularly adolescents, being exposed to violence on social media and the internet. The research will help develop social cognitive interventions that could facilitate the positive development of youth and prevent them from engaging in aggressive behavior. Research Question 2
Cyberbullying is a relatively new concept that many social scientists have not focused on. With the increased use of social media, it is essential to understand how cyberbullying differs from online bullying and how it impacts the victims. One of the reasons why it is crucial to understand and create more awareness of cyberbullying is that the digital nature of cyberbullying allows some form of the permanent record. In offline bullying, the victim is free to seek safety away from the perpetrator. Victims of cyberbullying continue to experience attacks even when they are in the safety of their homes. This research may help create awareness of the severity of the problem of

cyberbullying. Research shows cyberbullying may result in suicide ideation and low self-esteem, so there is a need to come up with remedies to curb cyberbullying.
