Instructions: Pick a topic of interest from any one of the themes discussed in the course to review relevant literature and to write an integrated paper. An integrated paper is a type of review of the literature that includes the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation of information on a well-defined content area. Additionally, it includes the writer’s original thoughts and ideas on the topic, which are based upon the available evidence. 2. An explanation of how your topic relates to your discipline
  3. A review of each of the pertinent areas that must be explored to gain an understanding of the many facets associated with your topic of interest. Within the review you need to:
    a. Ensure a logical transition from one pertinent area to another in order to provide the larger picture
    b. Distinguish between assertion and evidence in the studies
    c. Identify the methodological strengths and weakness of the studies
    d. Identify the relationships among the studies
    e. Identify major trends or patterns
    f. Note how the reviewed articles relate to your topic
    g. Identify gaps in the literature

h. Consider designing a table(s) that compare important characteristics of studies reviewed
i. Provide a summary section that makes all the necessary connections of the studies reviewed, and includes the key points that resonated from your review of each pertinent area presented

  1. A conclusion that is coherent, focused, and points to the next logical point of inquiry

Writing an integrated paper requires reflection and critical thinking, ample time to organize your thoughts, and a willingness to write multiple drafts. Therefore, you should start developing a working draft as soon as you register in the course. The research essay should adhere to the form and content requirements of a master’s level university research essay.
Read the Guidelines for Essays and Examinations and Academic Integrity sections of the Course Information before writing your essay. Use a standard citation style (Chicago, MLA, APA, etc.) consistently and correctly, and carefully proofread your paper before submitting.
