Nursing Seminar

Activity: Attending a Seminar on Nursing for the Future
Overview
Last week, I attended a local nursing seminar that was orchestrated by the local association of nurses with the help of the local health care department and nursing schools within the region. This was organized with the goal of enabling nurses to deliberate on the changing landscape of nursing due to technology and how they should adjust and improve their practice to meet future needs (Mastrian, 2011). This seminar was significantly valuable to me because it helped me develop a better understanding of the influence of technology on nursing and healthcare, and how it is changing service delivery.
Problem
It is important to note that nurses are subjected to long hours of study and assessment before they can receive their certification. In this respect, they are required to learn clinical, policy, and managerial skills that will help them become competent and efficient professional nurses. However, it is also important to note that the rate at which technology is developing in the world has a direct and significant impact on its application to a variety of other sectors, including healthcare (Mastrian, 2011). This development and application of new technology in healthcare effectively calls for nurses to remain abreast of the changes and adjust their practice accordingly. This can be a significant challenge for nurses, and especially if they are unaware of the changing professional expectations that will be placed on them as a result of technological advancements.
Solution
To facilitate this, this seminar emphasized the importance of open and effective communication in the professional and personal settings. It was identified as a significant factor in ensuring that nurses collaborated with each other and helped enlighten each other of the technological changes and developments in the industry (Yoder-Wise, 2014). At the same time, it emerged that healthcare facilities have a central role to play in this respect, seeing as they are required to ensure that they keep their nurses abreast with current developments through continuous learning and developmental training. At the same time, acquiring relevant technology allows the facility to modernize efficiently, which also enables their nurses to adjust to the changing industry landscape (Yoder-Wise, 2014). In order to ensure progress is collective in the healthcare industry in this respect, relevant and effective policies need to be developed and implemented to ensure that nurses, and other healthcare professionals, grow and adjust to the changing industry needs.
Opportunity
This seminar was extremely insightful insofar as providing insights on the future of nursing was concerned. It enabled me to understand the changes in technology and how they influence service delivery in the health care setting, and especially so for nurses. Similarly, this seminar enabled me to link up with other passionate nurses that are keen on ensuring they consistently adjust to the industry needs as they develop and that they are consistently capable of providing high-quality and efficient nursing services (Yoder-Wise, 2014). This seminar also helped me understand the role and importance of communication and collaboration in collective progress, and especially within the healthcare industry. At the same time, it enables to me to grow as a nurse by providing me with the opportunity to hear from other practicing nurses from different facilities within my locality. This not only improves my understanding and knowledge of the future of nursing as it continually changes, but also allows me to network with like-minded professionals that are also passionate about meeting the future needs of nursing.
