Finance Issues in Healthcare Delivery Systems

The issues that are affecting our healthcare systems present some special challenges. Changing health care models, the issues of waste, fraud and abuse, high administrative overhead, and malpractice in the health system are issues that will impact health care cost and quality. Many of the initiatives of healthcare reform will affect reimbursement at every level of care and type of facility.
Initial Post (Due Tuesday, 2359)
Choose from one of the following health care provider settings:

1. Acute care hospitals
2. Long term care facilities
3. Home health care
4. Mental health/psychiatric care
   Address the following issues (one paragraph for each of the issues below):
   A. Current issues and trends related to services and economics (financing).
   B. Explain impact that the Centers for Medicare and Medicare Services (CMMS) and other insurers have in these areas.
   C. Identify the organizations, coalitions, or any other “champions” that are advocating for healthcare policy initiatives in these areas.
   D. Describe the factors that will influence the future delivery of care in these areas.
   Response Posts (Due Friday, 2359)
   Respond to three or more postings of your colleagues to include:
   • Do you agree or disagree with any of the concepts that were discussed? Why or why not?
   • From your experience or perspective, what changes need to be made for the future in this area?
   • Who should be involved to successfully make necessary changes in this area?
   Remember the basic rules of posting:

7. Postings must have substance: “I agree” or “Good posting” are examples of postings that do not meet this criteria and will not count as a required posting.

   Note : You must include citations to support what you write and they must be in APA format. At least one should be another source besides your texts and readings, and should follow the basic rules of not more than 5 years old and be peer-reviewed sources.
