I enjoyed the video and what I have learned from this lesson. This focused on social work ethics and values while demonstrating human rights and human dignity to those in this project. It taught villages and communities how to pull together while continuing to grow and develop. It assisted with dual incomes while the men were working elsewhere. It gave more training and learning new skills and growth while continuing to embody the values and beliefs of their culture. This taught the women to be an advocate for one another as well as their families.
The participatory approach discussed in the video empowered the women as they were the ones who knew or the experts as the video stated on knowing what was and wasn’t going to help their community and the families thrive. The Participatory Rural Assessment (PRA) gave them confidence and empowerment while still embracing their cultural values and beliefs. They learned to advocate for basic needs and with the pulling together of the community, they were able to earn extra income to help get their children educated in school. With the education of the children, they will grow and be able to become contributing members of the community.
The women became individuals that worked from the Theoretical Functions of the community. They showed how they learned to become involved in the production, distribution as well as consumption of their labor. These women also learned how to gain social control. They became able to use resources and funding that assisted them in growth and empowerment.
