Assignment Objectives:
At the end of this assignment student will be able to:

1. Utilize research tools to gather information on a selected disease topic.
2. Discuss and write about a disease effectively and clearly.
3. Write with correct spelling, grammar, and sentence structure.
4. Present an essay that is formatted correctly per APA guidelines and requirements.
5. Create a reference page that has citations and is formatted on the page per APA requirements.
   Requirements:
6. Research a disease or syndrome that is not discussed in the course textbook utilizing SBCC library, local library or scholarly Internet-based reference articles.
7. Find at least 3 scholarly references or resources, which will be cited in final written presentation and noted on a Reference Page in correct APA format. Remember that Wikipedia is not a scholarly reference as it is not peer reviewed regularly, anyone can post to it and it is not updated on a regular basis. Therefore, do not use Wikipedia as an academic reference for this class assignment.
8. Do the work individually by creating an original paper. Papers submitted previously to other classes at SBCC or other institutions is not acceptable and will be graded as a zero.
9. Discuss in written format, at a minimum, information on the disease, background, signs, symptoms and treatment. On-going Research or Clinical Protocols may also be included.
10. Provide at a minimum of 3 full pages of written work (a paper is 8 1⁄2 x 11), which does not include cover page and/or reference page. Do not exceed 7 pages of narrative (this does not include cover page and/or reference page).
11. Your research paper must be in APA format. The current edition of APA is the 7th The submission in this course must include a title page, narrative content, header, in-text citations, and citations on a reference page. No abstract is required but the essay must be double-spaced on 8 1⁄2 x 11 page (APA requirement). Font type should be 12-inch font, Arial or New Times Roman as recommended by APA. Citations, both in the written work (in-text) and on the reference page must be in the correct APA format.
